Following our recent successes in a series of European Standard fire tests the MotionFrame Stud System has achieved several milestones in collaboration with both standard dry lining construction and its innovative bedfellow the MotionFrame Walling System.

The latter achievement has seen the successful accreditation of The MotionFrame FireWall (FW75) System which introduces an ultra slim 75mm and 1hr fire rated system that uniquely accommodates bi-directional and acoustically dampened movement.

The MotionFrame Walling Systems performance wall is therefore 30% slimmer than a traditional build, to the same specification, and subsequently delivers significant gains in habitable and saleable living space.

The key element to the systems performance success has been the development of the patent protected MotionFrame Stud System and its key component, the Stud Head.

The Stud Head is a unique zero halogen polymer and steel assembly that is used in collaboration with additional MotionFrame Stud System components to enhance the performance and functionality of industry standard, light steel frame systems. Within the MotionFrame product portfolio the Stud System underpins the integrity of our Walling System and is now proven as delivering the same benefits to standard dry lining solutions.

The Stud Head comprises of two components, an outer polymer profile and an inner steel plate insert.

The Stud Head’s polyamide profile incorporates three key design features:

Universal Fitting Collar

Allows simple insertion into any industry standard stud profile, enabling vertical movement and reinforcement of the steel stud length at this critical performance or non-performance steel frame junction.

Head Locating Cam

A profile that allows universal fitting of an assembled stud length into all industry standard stud profiles. The cam allows a simple twist lock placement of the stud into the head track and free friction-less lateral displacement when located.

Fire Performance Adaption

For fire performance walls an embedded steel bar is fitted within the polymer. Under fire conditions, the polymer is designed to melt away, exposing the steel plate and allow the stud to expand without deforming the wall structure - therefore increasing its performance. An ingenious USP that upgrades the capabilities of the product without compromising its principal performance specifications.

MotionFrame announce the successful fire testing to European Standard EN 1341-1 of their initial portfolio of performance wall products.

The MotionFrame Walling System is an off site manufactured modular walling system that adheres to the principals of DfMA (Design for Manufacture and Assembly) and therefore falls into the classification of ‘A Modern Method of Construction’.

On conclusion of the recent fire tests, and in addition to our non-performance wall derivatives, the portfolio of walling types includes:

FW 75 (60 minutes) – Single 75 mm laminate panel

FW 175 (120 minutes) – Double 75 mm laminate panel (including 25 mm void)

The FW 75 performance wall is 30% thinner than its traditional dry-lining equivalent offering and subsequently delivers significant gains in habitable and saleable living space.

Benefits and applications of our non-performance and fire rated walling solutions include:

  • The capability to offer an accelerated internal fit-out through the installation of external wall linings prior to the completion of the facades. The wall’s characteristics of non-paper faced boards, thermal efficiency and fire protection removes trade inter-dependencies and accelerates the fit-out programme.

  • Significantly reduced wall depths increase either the individual habitable living spaces of the construction or enables a greater volume of apartments per build based on the same floor plate. Either of which will deliver a higher rate of return from the construction.

  • Simplification of wall selection is achieved through a limited portfolio of walling products offering significant commercial benefits and reductions in complex detailing, excessive design and supervisory manpower and the hereditary workmanship issues and costs that typically follow.

  • Due to the offsite manufacturing process, parametric design systems, BiM integration and detailed panel by panel installation plans, the product and its associated elevations offer full traceability through an auditable trail.

  • Simplified and swift installation coupled with deskilled labour requirements overcomes labour resourcing challenges and reduces managerial, supervisory and installation labour volumes and costs.

Today marks the launch of MotionFrame’s new Design Service, a new approach that is set to revolutionise the Drywall Sector and enable comprehensive, integrated, and reactive design at the earliest stages of the build programme.

The MotionFrame Design Service has been developed through parametric design principles and enables a fully realised 3D model of the floor plate’s fit out design via data input into MotionFrame’s Walling Configurators.

Initial floor Lay Up designs can be generated from basic PDF 2D floor plans which enables the MotionFrame Design Team to draft the initial 3D building blocks for further development as the design phase progresses.
